I wish to appreciate the doctor, sisters, nurses and the other staff for all the services and support that was provided to me (room 108) and my family (room 137) during our stay at the Intermediate Care Centre. From the 4th of June, you all gave us the mental strength to recover from the sickness in our minds and bodies due to COVID-19. Medicine, food and other needs were tended to with care. I look forward to other future patients receiving the same brave service.

Your service is very good, mainly due to punctuality. The food was given on time. There was also a proper discharge process. The doctor was also very friendly and caring.

We were well cared for. The staff was very nice and attentive.

The room was very clean and sanitary equipment was also provided in the room. The bathrooms also were hygienic.

Cleaning duties are performed properly by the staff. The surroundings are also very relaxing. I saw lots of animals during my stay. The location and weather was also very nice. The staff was very patient. Thank you for caring.

I received good care at the Avani Kalutara Intermediate Care Centre. The nurses were very friendly and treated me well. The doctor also visited every day and took good care of me.

I was experiencing pain and blood in my stools even after my previous medication so I came to Durdans Hospital. The team at Durdans, with their modern equipment, helped me locate a tumour growing in the mid-rectal region through a colonoscopy. This is where a video camera attached to the tube was inserted and a biopsy was done to confirm it was a bowel cancer tumour.

After confirmation, my doctor Dr Aravinda Dissanayake, who has been a laparoscopic bowel surgeon for 5 years, performed the laparoscopy surgery (total laparoscopy anterior (ultra-low)) which was minimally invasive and quick, because they made incisions to the skin to insert cameras and equipment instead of doing an open surgery which would have taken me more time to recover.

The normal procedure would have been done in two stages with an opening in the abdomen (stoma) and a bag (colostomy bag), but this surgery was performed in one go, avoiding all these steps which was much easier for me to handle mentally and physically.

This helped me recover faster. Because only after 5 days of admission, I recovered and was discharged, all thanks to the rapid response by the team and doctors at Durdans, and their latest technology and modern techniques.

Durdans Hospital is brilliant. I came in to the Durdans Accident and Emergency Unit when the pain in the right side of my abdomen became severe and I had a high fever and a low appetite. The team at Durdans were incredible. They provided a translator, and ran some blood tests. On the same day, they referred me to Dr. Aravinda Dissanayake who is highly experienced. Through advanced diagnostic tools, the doctor found that we had to remove my punctured appendix.

An emergency laparoscopic surgery was done immediately on the same day. Dr. Aravinda Dissanayake and the skilled nurses made sure the surgery was done smoothly with no issues or delays because this was an emergency situation and my appendix was removed. Unlike an open surgery, there were no major cuts so I was able to recover much faster.

After my surgery, I was able to move around and eat well, all thanks to the amazing team at Durdans who acted rapidly to help treat me and made sure I was well-looked after since day 1.

මම ආනන්ද පතිරත්න. මට වයස අවුරුදු 75 යි. මම විශ‍්‍රාමික විදුහල්පතිවරයෙක්.

• මෙමරෝගී තත්වය ඔබ මුලින්ම හඳුනාගත්තේ කොහොමද?

2001 වසරේදී මට heart attack එකක් ඇවිත් බයිපාස් සැත්කමක් කරා.ඒ සැත්කමත් හිතපු තරම් සාර්ථක වුණේ නෑ. කාලෙකට පස්සේ, ඒ කියන්නේ 2017 වසරේදී වගෙ මගේ පපුව නිකන් තද කරනවා වගේ දැනුණා.ඊට පස්සේ පෞද්ගලික රෝහලකින් ECG පරීක්ෂණයක් කරාට පස්සේ කිව්වා,ECG එකේ ප‍්‍රශ්න වගයක් තියෙන නිසා ඇඩ්මිට් වෙන්න කියලා.Heart rate එක ගොඩාක් අඩුවෙලා තිබුණ නිසා එදාම දැඩි සත්කාර ඒකකයට මාව ඇතුලත් කරා.ඊට පස්සේ තමයි දැනගත්තේ ධමනියේ කපාටයක (Valve) කැල්සියම් බැඳිලා තියෙනවා කියලා. කොහොමහරි මාස 6කට විතර පස්සේ ඇවිදගන්න බැරිවුණ තත්වෙට මම ආයෙත් අසනීප වුණා. ඒත් එක්කම ගොඩාක් තදට පපුවේ වේදනාවක් එනවා. ඊට පස්සේ Echo පරීක්ෂණයකින් තහවුරු කරලා කිව්වා කපාටය replace කරන්න ඕනා නිසා ඉක්මණටම surgery එකකට යන්න ඕනා කියලා. ඒ අවස්ථාවේ හැටියට open surgery එකකට යන්න මම කැමති වුණත්, මගේ මිතුරෙකුගේ මාර්ගයෙන් දැනගන්න ලැබුණා හෘද වස්තුව විවෘත නොකර හදවත් සැත්කම් කරන ඩර්ඩන්ස් රෝහලේ ඩොක්ටර් පණ්ඩුල අතාවුදආරච්චි මහතාව.

• ශල්‍යකර්මයසිදු වූ ආකාරය පැහැදිළි කළොත්?
